The Internal Revenue Service reminded taxpayers who turned 70½ during 2012 that in most cases, they must start receiving required minimum distributions (RMD) from individual retirement accounts (IRA) and workplace retirement plans by April 1.

The Internal Revenue Service announced a nationwide expansion of a program designed to help law enforcement obtain tax return data vital to local efforts in investigating and prosecuting specific cases of identity theft.

The Internal Revenue Service issued its annual  Dirty Dozen list of tax scams, reminding taxpayers to use caution during tax season to protect themselves against a wide range of schemes ranging from identity theft to return preparer fraud.

The American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 expands the Work Opportunity Tax Credit for hiring certain workers through Dec. 31.

ATRA also extends the WOTC for qualified veterans hired beforeJan. 1, 2014.
